In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, this week’s spotlight features NAMI on Campus, the CWRU branch of National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Throughout the semester, NAMI on Campus coordinates events to tackle mental health topics like self-care, stress, counseling and stigma.
Some of these initiatives include a weekly peer support group, poetry slams, participation in National Eating Disorder Awareness week and NAMIWalks of Greater Cleveland. Even though the group is relatively new to campus—it was formed in the fall of 2015—it has incorporated itself into the community.
NAMI on Campus CWRU regularly participates in large student events like Thwing Study Over to be the voice of mental health on a very academically-driven campus. During exam periods like midterms and finals, the organization hosts a variety of events with activities designed to help students manage stress. Additionally, NAMI on Campus CWRU participated in the Connect CWRU Suicide Prevention Task Force, which implemented suicide prevention efforts on campus.
