Campus Spotlight: Alianza Latina/Latino Alliance

Hispanic Heritage Month is Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. To mark the occasion, Alianza Latina/Latino Alliance has collaborated with departments and organizations across campus to offer more than a month’s worth of events. View the Hispanic Heritage Month schedule.

Beyond Hispanic Heritage Month, Alianza Latina/Latino Alliance is active throughout the year. The organization, an affinity group for faculty and staff who identify as Hispanic or Latinx, aims to build cultural awareness across campus, support students and engage in public service.

Some of the group’s key activities involve students. For example, Alianza Latina/Latino Alliance provides funding for the Latino Graduation in the spring and helps send a member of the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers to a conference. Also, each year at the Unity Banquet, the organization recognizes a Latinx graduating senior.

The group’s efforts also extend to prospective students. Working with Esperanza Inc., Alianza Latina/Latino Alliance brings promising Latinx high school students from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District to CWRU for a day each spring.

Those interested in joining Alianza Latina/Latino Alliance can attend monthly drop-in lunches on the first Wednesday of the month from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Office of Multicultural Affairs on the fourth floor of the Sears Library Building.
