Cambridge University scholar to present on Renaissance anatomist Andreas Vesalius

Sachiko Kusukawa, a leading Vesalius scholar from Cambridge University, will present the Cleveland Medical Library Association Special Lecture on Thursday, April 16, at 6 p.m. in Ford Auditorium of Allen Memorial Medical Library. Kusukawa’s lecture will focus on the 500th anniversary of Andreas Vesalius, the premier anatomist of the Renaissance.

At the post-lecture reception at 7 p.m. in the Powell Room, the following works will be on display:

  • the 1543 first edition of the Fabrica (on loan from Kelvin Smith Library Special Collections),
  • the 1555 second edition of the Fabrica (the first book given to the newly founded Cleveland Medical Library Association in 1893),
  • Stephanus’ De dissectione partium corporis humani libri tres (1543),
  • Geminus’ Compendiosa totius anatomie delineatio, aera exarata (1545) and
  • Valverde’s Vivae imagines partium corporis humani aereis formis expressae (1572).
