Book by history’s John Broich named one of the best military history titles of the year

John BroichMilitary History Monthly named Associate Professor of History John Broich’s recent book, Squadron: Ending the African Slave Trade, one of the best military history titles of the year.

Broich’s book was one of 12 to be nominated for the Military History Monthly Book Awards. Osprey Publishing sponsors the competition. Individuals can vote on their favorite book, with the winner to be announced March 8 at Current Archaeology Live! 2019 in London.

Squadron: Ending the African Slave Trade details illicit slave trade in the Indian Ocean following the Civil War, the Royal Naval officers who sought to end it, the backlash it caused, and how the slave market was eventually shut down.
