Karen F. Kaler’s book, Eastcliff: History of a Home (University of Minnesota Press, 2023), was named the winner of the 2024 David Gebhard Award for the best book on the Minnesota built environment by the Minnesota Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians.
In this book, Kaler details the story of the official residence of the president of the University of Minnesota. The home, named Eastcliff, stands along the Mississippi River and was originally a former lumber baron’s 20-room estate. Kaler pulled the book together with architectural plans she drew and historic photos.
