The Plain Dealer: A national organization, Compassion & Choices, promotes the importance of individuals discussing end-of-life issues. Stuart Youngner, chairman of the Department of Bioethics, said people who want more control over how they die don’t usually want it because of pain; rather, it’s because “they don’t want to exist as they are existing, even if their pain is controlled.”
