Cultural anthropologists Karen Coen Flynn, senior research associate at the Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research and Education, and Mark S. Fleisher, research professor at the Begun Center, co-wrote a new chapter of the Routledge Handbook of Street Culture. In their chapter, “Writing ‘Street Culture’ Should be a Crime,” Flynn and Fleisher explore the problematic nature of the term “street culture” as it contributes to a harmful association between the “street” and violence, crime and poverty.
The chapter is available online in the Routledge Handbook of Street Culture.
