Begun Center’s Fred Butcher and Jeff Kretschmar co-author article about racial equity in the juvenile justice system

Fred Butcher, senior associate research professor at the Begun Center, and Jeff Kretschmar, managing director of the Begun Center, have co-authored an article featured in an issue of Juvenile Justice Information Exchange. 

Butcher’s and Kretschmar’s article is titled “How Juvenile Justice Systems Must Balance Risk Assessment with Racial Equity.” The piece explores whether ethical decisions about rehabilitation for youth offenders of different races can be made when using statistical evaluations such as risk assessment.
