Begun Center’s Daniel J. Flannery, Ivette Noriega co-author piece on overdose fatalities

Daniel J. Flannery, the Semi J. and Ruth W. Begun Professor and director of the Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research and Education, and Ivette Noriega, a postdoctoral scholar at the center, co-authored an article titled “Research in Brief: Carfentanil—A Fourth Wave of Fatal Overdoses.” 

With Cuyahoga County’s chief medical examiner and forensic epidemiologist, Flannery and Noriega described and documented the changing nature of overdose fatalities, and examined how the increase in carfentanil overdose fatalities affects law enforcement investigations and, ultimately, prosecutions of major drug traffickers.
