Number of juveniles charged with murder in Cleveland, its suburbs spiked in recent years
The Plain Dealer: Daniel Flannery, director of the Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research and Education, said the proliferation of guns among juveniles in Northeast Ohio has contributed to the spike in violence. “One reason is that kids think everyone is carrying a gun, whether they have evidence of that or not, whether it’s for protection or not,” Flannery said. “So, when everybody has a gun and there’s some conflict or interaction or opportunity or impulsive act, they think ‘I have a gun, I’m going to use it. I’m going to shoot you before you shoot me.’”
