Become an active participant in health care by using Consumer Reports resources

Case Western Reserve University is participating in a pilot launch of three resources from Consumer Reports to help employees make healthy choices. A feedback survey will be released in August, for those who used the resources. By filling out the survey, participants will be entered to win prizes.

Three options are available: video, app and website.

The video option is designed to help families have informed conversations with their doctor and other health care providers about choosing what health care they need—and which medical tests and treatments they may not need. The videos are available online at consumerhealthchoices.org/healthy-videos/.

The Making Healthy Choices iPhone app includes easy-to-read information about more than 100 health topics. The app is available for download online.

The Making Healthy Choices toolset website includes easy-to-read brochures about more than 100 health topics, short and compelling videos to help users think about what questions to ask their doctor, and the iPhone app. The toolset is available online at consumerhealthchoices.org/healthy/.

All three options will include information on a variety of topics. Users will be encouraged to ask their doctor such questions as:

  • “Do I really need this medical test or treatment?’
  • “What are the risks and benefits?”
  • “What happens if I don’t do anything?”

The easy-to-read information will lead users to become an active participant in their health care, reduce costs and improve outcomes.
