A recent scam has affected members of our campus community, in which a scammer poses as a familiar contact and asks an individual to purchase gift cards on their behalf. These messages are coming via both email (gmail.com addresses, as opposed to case.edu) and text message. In most instances, the scammer then directs the individuals to contact them via text message, in order to avoid information security protections.
Please remember: Any request to purchase gift cards on behalf of another individual should be viewed as highly suspect. All proper precautions should be taken before purchasing.
If you have purchased gift cards at the request of someone via email or text message, please contact the University Technology Service Desk at 216.368.HELP (4357), help@case.edu or help.case.edu.
