Baker-Nord Center to offer free film screening on artist Rockwell Kent

flier about Frederick Lewis' visit to CWRUThe Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities at Case Western Reserve University will present several free, public events in February, including lectures on chemistry as an art, ethics shared by humans and animals and Latin America in the past 40 years, as well as a film screening and discussion about artist Rockwell Kent.

The first event is Monday, Feb. 9, at 5 p.m. in the Wolstein Building Auditorium. Frederick Lewis, associate professor in the School of Media Arts and Studies at Ohio University, will visit campus to show his film Rockwell Kent, about the artist and social activist (1882-1971) who produced haunting landscapes inspired by his adventures in Alaska, Tierra del Fuego and Greenland. Lewis will discuss his 10-year project to retrace the painter’s nomadic life through the film, which documents how Kent’s travel experiences inspired his artistic work.

Following the film, Lewis will lead a discussion about his experience in creating the documentary.
