National Hispanic Heritage Month will run from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 to recognize the contributions made by, the important presence of and the heritage and culture of Hispanic and Latino Americans.
The month’s events at Case Western Reserve will be hosted by Alianza Latina/Latino Alliance (ALA), an employee resource group that began two years ago. The group’s cornerstone effort on campus is Hispanic Heritage Month.
The month will include 19 scheduled events, including a Power of Diversity lecture from Maria Hinojosa, an award-winning journalist and news correspondent with PBS, NPR and CNN.
Kelvin Smith Library also will display local artists’ work throughout the month.
The opening reception of the Latino Art Show Exhibit at the Kelvin Smith Library art gallery will be held today (Sept. 15) from 3 to 6 p.m. The exhibit will run from through Oct. 15 in commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The opening reception for the show will mark the beginning of the Hispanic Heritage Month. Artists will be on hand and refreshments will be served. Scholars from as far as Cuba and California will share their tales and insights.
The student group La Alianza (LaNA) also has planned many events to celebrate the month, including the LaNA market Thursday, Sept. 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Kelvin Smith Library’s oval. The market will have food trucks and music.
