Maggie Popkin, the Robson Junior Professor of Art History and Art, published a book about Roman souvenirs and their cultural and social significance throughout the Roman Empire.
Souvenirs and the Experience of Empire in Ancient Rome unearths the little-known history of Roman souvenirs, objects from the ancient Roman Empire harkening back to prominent events, places, and figures. Souvenirs are thought to have represented local and cultural relationships among ancient Roman citizens of all classes. Popkin’s book includes 137 images of rare excavated souvenirs.
