Case Western Reserve University is offering summer faculty-led study abroad programs in Cuba, Paris, Cameroon, Botswana, Israel, Italy and India. Scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500 are now available for Case Western Reserve students participating in these programs.
The application can be found on the Office of Education Abroad website. The deadline for summer study abroad scholarships is March 1.
While some of these programs are already full, others still have slots available.
Applications are currently being accepted for programs to Cuba, Paris, Cameroon, Israel and India. A brief introduction of the programs and deadlines for applications is provided below:
The Cuba Experience: May 13-June 3; apply by March 1
An immersive experience with artists, intellectuals, musicians, academic faculty, historians and writers in Matanzas—“The City of the Bridges.” The program also will provide students with opportunities to visit places related to their majors, develop proficiency in Spanish and interact with the local Cuban community. Spanish and Global and Cultural Diversity credit will be offered.
The Paris Experience: May 13-June 2; apply by March 1
Discover Paris’s ethnic neighborhoods though the literature and culture of its African, Arab and Asian communities. Students will visit cultural centers and museums, meet with authors and community leaders, attend an African dance session and observe a literacy program for France’s newly arrived immigrants. Students also will debate social issues with French students concerning immigration and French identity. French, Global and Cultural Diversity, and World Literature credit will be offered.
The Cameroon Experience: May 14-June 5; apply by March 1
An immersion-learning experience living and studying in Buea, Yaounde and Dschang. Students will take part in one-on-one interaction with faculty members, intellectuals, artists and writers as well as enjoy visits to classes, political institutions, museums, historical sites and monuments. Students also will conduct a research project and service learning. French, Global and Cultural Diversity, World Literature, and Ethnic Studies credit will be offered.
Manot Archaeological Dig (Israel): July 6-27; apply by March 1
This course, offered by the School of Dental Medicine, allows students to participate in a professional dig while learning about the region, archeology, and dental medicine. Digging will start July 8 and end July 20. A tour of the city of Nazareth will be offered during the program.
Global Health: India: dates and application deadline TBA
This Department of Bioethics program offers students an in-depth study of disease in India by examining the historical, cultural, ethical, medical, religious and legal aspects that influence HIV/AIDS, leprosy and TB and delves into the ethical dilemmas that arise at the intersection of medicine, law, technology and culture. A cross-sectional perspective of health care in India will be examined through a visit to Hyderabad.
