Apollo Medical Devices named runner-up at prestigious McCloskey Business Plan Competition

In this busy season for entrepreneurial awards and announcements of innovation grants, Punkaj Ahuja and Patrick Leimkuehler, and their venture Apollo Medical Devices, have an especially full calendar.

Over the April 17 weekend, Apollo was the runner-up in Notre Dame University’s prestigious McCloskey Business Plan Competition. The team also received recognition for Best Presentation, as determined by the audience attending the McCloskey event.

Additionally, Punkaj and Patrick were finalists in the LaunchTown competition, are applying for funding from the Northeast Ohio Student Venture Fund, and are putting the wraps on a Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology/National Institutes of Health grant.

Apollo Medical Devices has a two-year license agreement from the Case Western Reserve University Technology Transfer Office to continue developing a point-of-care blood tester. The company plans to further develop a hand-held medical device that, with one drop of blood, can determine several health factors.
