Join the Social Justice Institute for “AmeRÍcan: Celebrating Puerto Rican Resistance and Resilience,” an event highlighting the history of social movements in Puerto Rico and the diaspora, the intersection of arts and activism, the question of building community power, and the need for political advocacy and education. The conference will be on Wednesday, March 18, from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Linsalata Alumni Center.
The conference will feature Juan González as its keynote speaker. The Richard D. Heffner Professor of Communications and Public Policy at Rutgers University, González is the author of five books, including Harvest of Empire: A History of Latinos in America, and the radio and TV co-host of Democracy Now. The conference will also showcase recording artist, Bobby Sanabria. Other speakers include author Raquel M. Ortiz Rodríguez, Marvin Garcia, executive director of the Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos High School, and Erica González Martinez, director of Power 4 Puerto Rico.
