Paul Berg, Nobel-winning pioneer of genetic engineering, is dead at 96
The New York Times: Alumnus Paul Berg (GRS ’52, biochemistry), a 1980 winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry alongside Walter Gilbert and Frederick Sanger, recently died at age 96. Berg, whose work as a genetic engineer increased understanding of recumbent DNA, also was an advocate for ethical research considerations.
