Alpha Chi Omega holding annual Domestic Violence Awareness Week

Alpha Chi Omega is holding its annual Domestic Violence Awareness Week this week, Oct. 7-12. The week will include a number of events aimed at raising awareness of domestic violence, with all proceeds benefiting the Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center of Greater Cleveland.

This year Alpha Chi Omega is celebrating its 30th anniversary on campus, and since its founding, its members have raised more than $39,000 for the Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center of Greater Cleveland.

Below is a list of all events for the week:

Oct. 7-11: Domestic Violence Awareness Bake Sale
The bake sale will be held in Nord Hall all week, with all proceeds benefiting Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center of Greater Cleveland.

Oct. 8: Hidden Voices
Stop by the Elephant Stairs or Leutner Pavilion and read about and reflect on how domestic violence has affected men, women and children in the community.

Oct. 9: Violence Against Women: How We Can Create a Culture of Resistance
Stop by the Spot from 7 to 8:30 p.m. to hear a guest speaker from the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center discuss Domestic Violence Awareness issues in a college setting. A discussion with the audience will follow.

Oct. 10: Voices Against Violence
Join members of Alpha Chi Omega and the S.A.V.E. Organization for the second annual Voices Against Violence event. Voted one of the “Best New Campus Events” in 2012, Voices Against Violence is an opportunity for survivors and all those against domestic violence to speak out and share their stories in a supportive environment. The event will take place at 7 p.m. on the Kelvin Smith Library oval.

Oct. 12: Annual Kickball Tournament
This year’s tournament will be held at Clark Tower Field (Rope Pull Field) from noon to 5 p.m. All interested in participating can sign up in teams of 8-12. Registration will be held in Nord Hall, Oct. 7-11. Email Maddie Starr at mrs163@case.edu directly to sign up a team. Registration cost is $50 and all proceeds benefit the Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center of Greater Cleveland.
