All-campus barbecue to be held Aug. 31; Leutner and Fribley closed for lunch

An all-campus community hour barbecue will be held Friday, Aug. 31, from noon to 2 p.m. on the Case Quad. Sponsored by the Share the Vision Committee, Students Affairs, Bon Appétit Management Co. and The Spot, the event will kick off the new academic year.

Attendees can enjoy games such as bocce, cornhole and Frisbee as well as free popcorn and sweets. Giveaways and prizes will include a free two-month membership to 121 Fitness and a University Bookstore gift certificate.

The all-campus barbeque will feature a traditional picnic menu as well as live music from the Feral Cats, a jazz combo featuring Bill Marx from biomedical engineering.

Provost W.A. “Bud” Baeslack III, Undergraduate Student Government President James Hale, and Graduate Student Senate President Randy Toy will be on hand to welcome faculty, staff and students to the new academic year, and coach Greg Debeljak will introduce this year’s Spartan football team.

On this day, Leutner and Fribley Commons will be closed for lunch. Students on a meal plan can use a swipe to get the required lunch wristband. This can be done in advance at Leutner or Fribley or at the event, but students are encouraged to avoid the rush and get wristbands before the day of the barbeque.

For others, lunch wristbands are $6.50. Students can use CaseCash or cash, and faculty and staff can use CaseCharge or cash. Wristbands can be purchased at the barbeque or in advance at Tomlinson Marketplace or Kelvin Smith Library’s Cramelot.

The rain site will be Thwing Center.
