The Daily is Case Western Reserve University’s internal communications e-newsletter and website filled with up-to-date university-related announcements, distributed every weekday via email to all faculty, staff and students.
Each section of the website and newsletter has specific guidelines for inclusion.
Please note: Not all submissions will appear in The Daily. Inclusion is at the editor’s discretion and may be subject to editing for brevity and clarity.
The audience of The Daily is first and foremost an internal audience. As such, it is also a broad audience, reaching faculty, staff and students across all departments and schools. Therefore, items included in The Daily must be applicable to a majority of the campus.
If your item does not relate to a majority of the campus, there are multiple other outlets through which your message can better reach your target audience. For assistance, contact your school or college's internal communications manager, seek departmental resources or post your event to the Community Postings Board.
Submissions must be received at least 3-5 business days prior to preferred run date.
The following are guidelines for feature stories, which are articles prominently placed in the newsletter/on the website:
This section includes internal appointments at the director level and above, as well as external appointments related to a faculty or staff member’s professional work.
These items highlight awards given to faculty, students and staff across all areas.
This section includes information to keep the university community updated on construction, traffic, facility hours and other important information.
This section highlights announcements that may not otherwise fit within The Daily’s editorial guidelines. These items must be university-related and appropriate for the university audience (e.g., no advertisements, spam, profanity, defamatory language or events featuring alcohol). Announcements of job or internship postings are not appropriate for The Daily's primary sections (Student Life, Faculty/Staff). However, individuals can post job postings to the Community Postings Board. These posts are subject to approval by the editor. Individuals not operating in an official capacity with the university cannot post to the community page. If submitting a call to recruit participants for a research study to be published in the Community Postings section, please email your IRB approval letter with the IRB approved stamped version of the advertisement to case-daily@case.edu.
Fundraising announcements that encourage the campus to get involved in an event—such as a race, gala or dinner—will be included in our event listings. Those that ask the campus simply to make a purchase on behalf of their organization—e.g. bake sales, fundraising at local restaurants or T-shirt sales—will be included in The Daily's Community Postings section. Announcements in the Community Postings section can be viewed or posted at any time, but the headlines only run in the newsletter on Thursdays, so organizations wanting to appear in this section should plan accordingly.
These announcements feature upcoming events sponsored by the university, campus departments, schools and organizations. Events fall under the following categories:
