“A Draft Indictment: A Roundtable Discussion about Russian War Crimes in Ukraine”

Case Western Reserve University School of Law will host a virtual event, titled “A Draft Indictment: A Roundtable Discussion about Russian War Crimes in Ukraine,” Wednesday, April 27, from noon to 1 p.m.

In this hour-long online roundtable discussion, Michael Scharf, co-dean of Case Western Reserve University School of Law and host of “Talking Foreign Policy,” which airs on public radio’s WCPN, will moderate a conversation about accountability for war crimes in the Ukraine.

Participating experts include:

  • Milena Sterio, professor, Cleveland Marshall College of Law and managing director, Public International Law and Policy Group, who is leading an initiative to document war crimes in Ukraine;
  • David Crane, former chief prosecutor of the Special Court for Sierra Leone, who led a group that prepared a draft indictment of President Putin and other high-ranking Russians; and
  • Valerie Oosterveld, professor of law and associate director of the Center for Transitional Justice and Post Conflict Reconstruction at Western Law in Canada. She was formerly attorney adviser in Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and was a delegate to the Rome Diplomatic Conference that established the International Criminal Court.
