Jeremy Bendik-Keymer’s roots may come from Slovakia, but Bendik-Keymer, the Beamer-Schneider Professor in Ethics and associate professor of philosophy, never had the opportunity to go visit the country and learn more about his heritage—until now. He has been asked to give a series of talks in Eastern Slovakia Sept. 15–22 at a conference on professional ethics. In addition, he will present to faculty members and doctoral students at the University of Presov, at the invitation of Dean Vasil Gluchman, a philosophy professor, ethicist and human rights scholar.
At the ethics conference in the High Tatras, Bendik-Keymer will present a talk, “Public & Functional: Responsibility for Structural Injustice Against the Atomization of ‘Professions.’” At the University of Presov for the UNESCO Chair of Bioethics, he will present the talk, “Bioethics on a Massive Scale: Trophic Level Cascade Risks and Future Generations.” Finally, for humanities PhD students at the university, he will discuss the current state of the humanities with reference to his work in the United States, the United Arab Emirates and France: “Between Contradictions of Themselves and the Many-Purposed World: How Humanities Communities Make Space for People.”
