The Case Western Reserve University Office of Energy & Sustainability is partnering with uGO of University Circle Inc. and Bike Cleveland to offer a free beginner’s bike education course to help individuals feel confident to ride on the road and answer questions they may have. This special Green Bag Lunch, titled “Urban Biking 101,” will be held Wednesday, July 24, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Tinkham Veale University Center Senior Classroom (Room 134).
The following questions will be addressed:
- Am I supposed to ride in the middle of the lane or near the curb?
- How do I signal a turn?
- Am I allowed to ride on the sidewalk?
Pizza lunch will be provided by uGO University Circle. Registration is required and can be completed via Eventbrite.
After the class, attendees are encouraged to participate in an optional, short community bike ride led by Bike Cleveland. The ride will be from 1:15 to 2 p.m., beginning and returning to the Tinkham Veale University Center. To participate in the bike ride, individuals must attend the education session from noon to 1 p.m. and wear a bike helmet.
Those who plan to participate in the ride should bring their bike to the Tinkham Veale University Center prior to the lunch. Bike racks are available near the two main entrances.
A limited number of UHBikes bike-share bikes can be made available. Those who would like to use one should reserve it when registering for the event. Riders must have their own UHBikes digital account set up and cover any fees for the event. CWRU email address subscribers receive a monthly membership, which would provide them with 60 minutes of free ride time a day. UHBikes users must provide their own helmet.
All area employees and residents in University Circle are welcome to attend this session, but the event is limited to 40 participants.
