The Department of English will host Toi Derricotte, an author of numerous books of award-winning poetry, for a poetry reading Friday, April 19, from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. in the Guilford House parlor. The campus community is welcome to attend.
About Derricotte
Derricotte has written many books of poetry, including The Undertaker’s Daughter, The Empress of the Death House, Natural Birth, Captivity and Tender, which won the Paterson Poetry Prize. She has a forthcoming book of poetry titled I: New & Selected Poems with University of Pittsburgh Press. She also is the author of a literary memoir, The Black Notebooks, which won the 1998 Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for Non-Fiction.
Derricotte has received two Pushcart Prizes and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation, among other honors. She is cofounder of Cave Canem, professor emerita at the University of Pittsburgh and a former chancellor of the Academy of American Poets.
