Students, faculty, staff and members of the Case Western Reserve University community are invited to make recommendations for the university’s 2013 common reading.
The Common Reading Program was started in 2002 for first-year students. Each year new undergraduate students have been given a common reading during the summer before they begin classes. The selected book then serves as a basis for programs and discussions beginning at orientation and continuing through the fall semester.

Knight Professor of Humanities; Katherine C. Lavelle, Ellen and Dixon Long Professor of World Affairs; Shannon French, Inamori Professor of Ethics; Jim McGuffin-Cawley, Arthur S. Holden Professor of Engineering; Laura Kruse, student; Eric Dicken, senior executive director of Donor Relations, University Events, and Presidential Protocol, ex-officio; and Edwin Mayes, director of First-year Experience and Parent Programs, ex-officio.
