CWRU to test emergency notification systems Monday, March 11

Editor’s Note: This article has been updated to reflect that the first portion of the test is complete.

Case Western Reserve University will test its emergency notification systems—including its outdoor speakers—on Monday, March 11.

The test is being conducted over spring break, and in two parts, to reduce its impact on the campus community.

The first portion was conducted successfully overnight: From 2 to 2:30 a.m., the university tested its lockdown capabilities on the Case Quad.

At noon, the university will broadcast a test message on outdoor speakers across the campus, and briefly post test messages on its websites and social media platforms. Officials also will transmit test messages on a much more limited basis via speakers on office telephones, text and email. Those scheduled to receive direct individual communications will be notified today.

All messages sent as part of this exercise will include the word “TEST” up front. In the event that an actual emergency takes place on Monday, March 11, the university will send messages without “TEST” and recipients should follow the instructions provided.

This test of the university’s emergency notification systems also marks an opportune time for all members of the campus community to make sure their contact information is correct in the university’s system.
