Elizabeth Click, medical director and assistant professor at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, presented “The New Happy Hour: Literature as a Vehicle for Social Wellness” at HEROForum18, an annual conference of the Health Enhancement Research Organization.
The conference, held Oct. 2-4, was intended to advance new strategies and tools for worksite health promotion, aligning the C-Suite with the shop floor.
About the presentation
Click and her co-presenter, Executive Director of Books@Work Ann Kowal Smith, demonstrated the efficacy of gathering employees from all ranks, roles and backgrounds to discuss shared readings (mostly fiction), an approach that builds trust and community wellness.
For nearly two years, Click has worked with the Cleveland-based non-profit Books@Work, gathering the data to prove that literature can provide a novel opportunity for organizational wellness initiatives.
