The Medieval Academy of America recently awarded the Digital Red Monastery Church its Digital Humanities and Multimedia Studies Prize. Elizabeth Bolman, the Elsie B. Smith Professor in the Liberal Arts, was the principal investigator on the project, an interactive, 360-degree panorama of the sanctuary.
In honoring Bolman’s work, the selection committee said the project “has great significance to scholars studying the architectural and art history of the monastery. It also offers a substantial preservation component for a building that is endangered, and the 3-D data that was captured was state of the art.”
The award carried a $1,000 prize, which was given at the Medieval Academy Annual Meeting at Emory University in Atlanta March 1-3.
