More than 30 years ago, author Robert Fulghum suggested he learned most of what he really needed to know about how to live, what to do and how to be in kindergarten. Comedian and television personality Ellen DeGeneres concludes her daily talk show by encouraging her viewers to “Be kind to each other.” How much of this colloquial advice might apply to university learning environments?
At the next University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education (UCITE) session, Interim Director Matthew Garrett will discuss how core values of the art and science of teaching relate to the ideas found in Fulghum’s text, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. Discussion topics for this session, titled “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten: Transfers for Teaching,” will range from creating a positive and constructive learning environment to effective instructional strategies for both large and small classroom settings.
This UCITE event will be held Thursday, Jan. 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Allen Memorial Building, Herrick Room. Pizza lunch and sodas will be provided at this session.
