Studies shed light on ‘twice exceptional’ students
Education Week: New studies on “twice-exceptional students”—intellectually gifted children also diagnosed with learning disabilities—highlight the need for educators to take an earlier, more holistic approach to evaluating and teaching students with disabilities. Sylvia Rimm, clinical professor of psychiatry, said the timing of an evaluation is crucial because while giftedness can cover up a disability early on, as time progresses, a disability can hide a student’s strengths.
