The 2017-18 William N. Skirball Writers Center Stage Series continues on Tuesday, Oct. 17, with legendary performer Patti Smith in conversation with book critic Maureen Corrigan.
A limited number of free student tickets will be available in person beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Students can show their Case Western Reserve ID at the Tinkham Veale University Center’s first floor information desk to obtain a ticket to that evening’s event.
Patti Smith
Patti Smith is an American writer, performer and visual artist. She first gained recognition in the 1970s for her revolutionary merging of poetry and rock music. Her seminal album “Horses” has been hailed as one of the top 100 albums of all time. In 2010, Smith won the National Book Award for her memoir Just Kids, the moving story of her relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. Smith was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. She just released a new book, Devotion (Why I Write).
Maureen Corrigan
One of America’s most distinguished book critics, Maureen Corrigan will interview Patti Smith onstage. For more than 20 years, Corrigan has been the book critic for National Public Radio’s Fresh Air. Her reviews have been published in The Washington Post, The Village Voice, The New York Times and The Boston Globe, among other publications. Corrigan has authored two nonfiction books, Leave Me Alone, I’m Reading and So We Read On: How the Great Gatsby Came to Be and Why It Endures, which was named one of the 10 best books of the year by Library Journal.

The sold-out event will take place Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Milton and Tamar Maltz Performing Arts Center at The Temple – Tifereth Israel (1855 Ansel Road).
A free shuttle will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. to transport ticketed guests to the Maltz Performing Arts Center. Shuttles depart from the Tinkham Veale University Center Linsalata Entrance (Bellflower Road), and return shuttles leave from the Maltz Performing Arts Center at the conclusion of the lecture.
The 2017-2018 William N. Skirball Writers Center Stage Series is presented by the Cuyahoga County Public Library Foundation and academic partner, Case Western Reserve University. Funds raised by this series help support Cuyahoga County Public Library, the nation’s top-rated library system for eight consecutive years.
