Edwin B. Mayes has joined the Case Western Reserve University community as director of First Year Experience. He will report directly to the vice president for enrollment management.
In his new position, Mayes will be responsible for leadership and vision of all new student and parent programs as well as working with enrollment management and campuswide partners to coordinate strategies and programs that support students’ successful transition from high school through their first year at the university.
Mayes joins Case Western Reserve from Wright State University, where he served as director of First Year Experience. He previously served in administrative roles at Earlham College, Wittenberg University and the University of Michigan.
Mayes brings a wealth of experience in developing and implementing new programs to improve student retention and meeting the needs of students in transition, as well as assessing program success. He has been a regular featured presenter on these topics at a number of national conferences, including the National First Year Experience Conference, the IUPUI National Assessment Conference and the NASPA National Assessment Conference.
Mayes holds a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in higher education administration from Wright State University, and he served as the vice president of the Dayton Wright State African-American Alumni Society. He is a doctoral candidate in the higher education administration program at Ohio University.
