Connect with your community this fall break through the Center for Civic Engagement & Learning’s (CCEL) new Cleveland Neighborhood Immersion Alternative Break, focused on the Hough, Fairfax and Midtown neighborhoods.
Students will learn about the unique history and cultural assets of these communities by:
- Meeting with 100-plus-year-old area nonprofits;
- Going to a play at the Cleveland Play House
- Touring Cleveland’s original stagecoach stop and historic Urban League baseball stadium;
- Participating in an African dance and drumming lesson; and
- Tasting the culinary innovations in the communities.
The program runs from Saturday, Oct. 21 to Monday, Oct. 23.
While students will stay in their usual on- or off-campus lodging, their transportation, entertainment and most meals will be covered by the $95 participant fee, which has been significantly discounted.
A limited number of $30 discounts are also available to students willing to serve as a minivan driver during the break. Learn more about this opportunity at students.case.edu/community/opportunities/breaks/asbdriver.html.
For more information, visit the Alternative Breaks page or email adrian.griffin@case.edu with questions.
Apply online by Sunday, Oct. 1; however, spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The next Cleveland Neighborhood Immersion will be focused on the St. Clair-Superior and AsiaTown neighborhoods during Martin Luther King Jr. Day Weekend Jan. 13 –15.
