The Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and Case School of Engineering, in collaboration with Tohoku University (Japan), invite the university community to the third annual Data and Life Science Collaboration and Symposium Aug. 3–4.
The symposium brings together students and researchers from Case Western Reserve University and Tohoku University in a two-day symposium that includes a poster session and workshops. The School of Medicine will have workshops titled “Big Data and Biological Complexities” and “Big Data and Healthcare.” The Case School of Engineering will have workshops titled “Materials Data Science” and “Engineering Data Science and Analytics.”
New to this year’s program is the Entrepreneur Workshop Aug. 4. CWRU experts will discuss how big data is used to support entrepreneurship and translation in the academic setting toward industry. The workshop may be of interest to students who are considering career options in industry and biotech, or just curious about the translation process.
The following individuals will present during the workshop:
- Mark Chance, vice dean for research at the School of Medicine: “Overview of Innovation Programs”
- Stacy Fening, director of contracts and tangible assets at the CWRU Technology Transfer Office: “Data Use Agreements and Software Licenses”
- Nicole Steinmetz, the George J. Picha Professor in Biomaterials and associate professor of biomedical engineering: “Nanotechnology & Cancer”
- Pallavi Tiwari, assistant professor of biomedical engineering: “Imaging Technology in Brain Tumor Diagnosis”
- Xin Qi, associate professor of physiology and biophysics: “Huntington’s disease: Target Identification and Drug Discovery”
