The Center for Civic Engagement & Learning (CCEL) will offer three Alternative Breaks during spring semester to give undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to spend a week in service and learn about a new community issue during their school break.
Alternative Spring Break options, which will be offered March 13-17, focus on mass incarceration (southeast Michigan) or refugees and immigrants (Columbus) and will cost $360.
The Alternative May Break, which will be held May 12-19, focuses on unpacking international volunteerism in Nicaragua and will cost $1,460.
Break fees cover international flight (if applicable), transportation, lodging, entertainment and most meals. The application deadline for all breaks is Feb. 1; however spots will be filled on a rolling basis.
A limited number of scholarships are available; apply online by the Dec. 9 deadline.
Students interested in an added level of leadership can apply to be a break site leader, and, if selected, will receive a $200 stipend applied to the cost of their break. Applications to be a site leader are available online and due Nov. 29.
