The Social Justice Research Lunch Series continues Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Crawford Hall, Room A13 with a talk from Ayesha Bell Hardaway, assistant professor of law.
Bell Hardaway will discuss the legal construct of the common law trust and its precedent in the historical context of the relationship between the United States government and Native Americans.
With this backdrop, the discussion will explore the establishment of a similar trust relationship between the federal government and African-Americans, including the argument for reparations.
A question and answer session will follow Bell Hardaway’s talk.
Bell Hardaway teaches as a clinician in the Milton A. Kramer Law Clinic in the areas of criminal justice, civil litigation and health law. Her research and scholarship interests include the intersection of race with constitutional law, criminal law, health law and civil litigation.
She serves as a member of the Independent Monitoring Team appointed to evaluate the progress and implementation of Cleveland Police Department reforms mandated by a settlement agreement between the City of Cleveland and the U.S. Department of Justice.
The Social Justice Research Lunch Series presents monthly events where faculty and researchers across academic disciplines present how social justice is central to their research.
