The LGBT Center will host Robyn Ochs, a professional speaker, award-winning activist and the editor of Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World, for three speaking engagements March 1-2.
The first is a free, public lecture titled “Beyond Binaries: Identity and Sexuality,” which will be held March 1 at 5:30 p.m. in the 1914 Lounge at Thwing Center. This program explores the landscape of sexual orientation and the relationship between experience and self-identity and between self-identity and the way we are “read” by others. An optional free dinner and informal follow-up conversation with Ochs will follow the lecture. RSVP online.
Then, on March 2, Ochs will lead a professional development workshop titled “The Changing Landscape of Identity: Understanding and Supporting Students of All Gender Identities and Sexual Orientations.” The workshop will be held March 2 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Thwing Center’s Meeting Room A. All Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals Case Medical Center staff, faculty and graduate/professional students are invited to attend. Lunch will be provided and space is limited. That evening, Ochs will facilitate a talk especially for students: “Embracing a Both/And Identity in an Either/Or World.” She will examine issues faced by people who identify as bisexual, pansexual, genderqueer or those who use other labels that defy an “either/or” interpretation of the world.
The talk will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in Guilford Lounge. Dinner will be provided. RSVP to cdb59@case.edu by Feb. 27.
