Integrity Week 2012 begins Feb. 24, with a week of events hosted by the Academic Integrity Board (AIB). Events range from a casual hot chocolate meet-and-greet with the AIB to a panel discussion on this year’s Integrity Week theme “Fostering a Culture of Integrity” featuring student and faculty leaders.
Though many think of the AIB as purely a group of involved students adjudicating academic integrity hearings, the board also takes a preventive role in educating the campus on the pitfalls of the academic integrity policy through the events of the annual Integrity Week.
The events are outlined below:
Feb. 24, 12:30-2 p.m.
Keynote Speaker: Captain Rick Rubel of the U.S. Naval Academy
Thwing Ballroom
The highlight of this year’s Integrity Week is keynote speaker Captain Rick Rubel of the U.S. Naval Academy, sponsored by the Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence.
After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Rubel occupied numerous positions, including commanding officer at the Long Beach naval base and program manager of the Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer Program. Rubel also played a significant role in the development of the Navy’s Aegis Cruiser Program. He was appointed as the first Distinguished Military Professor of Ethics at USNA and holds the General Robert T. Herres Distinguished Military Professorship Chair of Leadership and Ethics.
He is currently the coordinator of the US Naval Academy’s Core Ethics Course and oversees their Honor Remediation Program—an intensive, yearlong program that midshipmen must complete after committing an academic integrity violation. Rubel will speak about integrity, ethical leadership, and character development.
