The Social Justice Institute’s Research Lunch Series will continue with a discussion on the criminalization of children Tuesday, April 5, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in Crawford Hall, Room A13.
Gabriella Celeste, director of policy at the Schubert Center for Child Studies, will present “Schools Push Out and the Criminalization of Childhood.” She will examine how principles of child and adolescent development inform the importance of building positive and safe school learning environments.
Using national and statewide data, she will analyze how issues of safety and security in schools are addressed and trends in school discipline, with a focus on the disparities facing youth of color and youth with disabilities. She also will present policy guidance and discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Ohio school districts and the students and families they serve.
A Q&A session will follow her talk.
The event is free and open to the university community. Those who attend should bring their own lunch; dessert and drinks will be provided.
