Gabon, a small country along the Atlantic coast of Africa, has a history of prominent women writers whose work has created the national literature. Despite its many milestones in this area, however, this tiny nation has not received the critical attention that other African neighbors have enjoyed.
At the next Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities event, Cheryl Toman, associate professor of French, will examine the “herstory” of Gabon’s literature in her lecture, titled “Invisible Women: Gabon’s ‘Empty Canon.’ ”
Her Faculty-Work-in-Progress lecture will be held Thursday, Feb. 4, from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. in Clark Hall, Room 206.
Registration is available online.
