Visit Shanghai with MGMT 315 course this spring; put down deposit by Jan. 15

MGMT 315 course flyerJoin the Weatherhead School of Management this spring in a visit to exchange partner, Tongji University, in Shanghai. The expanding global economy and increased importance employers place on international experiences make programs such as MGMT 315, International Management Institute, a vital component of a student’s education.

MGMT 315 is a three-credit hour course with no prerequisites, so students of any major are welcome and encouraged to participate. In addition, MGMT 315 counts toward completion of the Business Management minor. Have flexible summer plans? At the conclusion of the program, students may remain in China for additional travel. Have a summer internship lined up? Return to the U.S. on May 21, typically in plenty of time for a full summer internship.

The program consists of three required components. The first component requires students to attend one or two pre-sessions during the spring semester here at Case Western Reserve University. The main portion, the second component, is the two-week experience in China at Tongji University in Shanghai and in Beijing during the weekend trip. Following the trip, the third component requires students to complete a program assessment and submit a final assignment.

While in China, students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of experiences as well as explore on their own. Some examples of past lectures include:

  • Survival Chinese & Intercultural Communication
  • Entrepreneurship in China,
  • Marketing in China
  • Private Equity & Venture Capital in China

Students who have participated in past programs have met with representatives from such companies as AC Nielson, Bao Steel and Shanghai Totale Food Co. Ltd.

The program also includes plenty of opportunities for students to experience the local culture; some past excursions have included a Shanghai City Tour, Shanghai Museum, Cheng Huang Temple and Yu Garden and the ERA Show Intersection of Time at Shanghai Circus City.

On a trip to Bejing, students will visit the Palace Museum, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Great Wall of China, Bird’s Nest, Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven.

The deadline to put down a deposit is Friday, Jan. 15.
