The School of Medicine awarded Robert Bucklew, outreach coordinator for the Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (CTU), with the 2014-2015 Joan Harris Staff Development Award.
The School of Medicine annually awards this honor to a non-faculty employee who demonstrates excellence in job performance, significant achievements in leadership, a humanistic approach to work and exemplary service to the school.
Bucklew is praised for his leadership, philanthropic and outreach efforts supporting CTU through his roles within the university, the community and in three National Institutes of Health-sponsored networks—the AIDS Clinical Trials Group, the Microbicides Trials Network and the HIV Vaccine Trials Network.
Bucklew’s “stellar abilities have been recognized by all three networks, which is one of the factors that help position the CTU in such a favorable position.”
Within the AIDS Clinical Trials Group, Bucklew recently was awarded the Donna Davis Community Award, which is “given annually to the most effective contributor to community issues in this network—the largest clinical trials organization in the world.”
On a local level, Bucklew has served on multiple committees, including the CWRU/UHC CTU Community Advisory Board and the AIDS Funding Collaborative, and he has served the community as an educator and an advocate.
A reception was held in Bucklew’s honor on Thursday, Aug. 20, where he was presented with the Joan Harris Award. As the recipient of the award, Bucklew will be given a cash reward and his name has been inscribed on the Joan Harris Award plaque located in the Biomedical Research Building lobby.
