Michael Goldberg, visiting assistant professor of design and innovation at Weatherhead School of Management, traveled to Greece in February for a TEDxHeraklion session with Alexis Komselis, director of the ALBA Hub for Enterprise & Development in Greece.
Goldberg and Komselis collaborated to launch the massive open online course (MOOC) “Beyond Silicon Valley” in April 2014. Since its launch, the MOOC has attracted more than 41,000 students from 190 countries and was translated in 10 languages. Greek participation was immense and included several meetings scheduled in four major Greek cities throughout the course. The course draws upon Goldberg’s expertise in venture capitalism and teaches participants how to grow entrepreneurship in transitioning economies, endeavors that require the kind of leadership and innovative thinking taught at Weatherhead School.
On the stage of TEDxHeraklion, Goldberg and Komselis met in order to awaken listeners to two ideas: Dreaming should not stop, even if living in an economically unstable environment, and anyone can create something in one’s place and fight so that coming generations can have a better future.
