Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and WVIZ/PBS ideastream will broadcast a collaborative community health event Nov. 12. The broadcast will provide information on obesity, diabetes and heart disease and updates on the latest research and treatments available.
Beginning at 1 p.m., three WVIZ/PBS locally produced health programs will air on a special “Be Well” afternoon (rebroadcast at 3 p.m.). Viewers can call into the program between 1 and 5 p.m. to receive a free package of materials about area health screenings and health information designed to help Northeast Ohioans “Be Well.”
Obesity, diabetes and heart disease are three of the most prevalent health problems in Northeast Ohio and are among the primary areas of focus for the School of Medicine’s Urban Health Initiative, led by Amy R. Sheon, PhD, MPH. A team of CWRU School of Medicine students will help cover phone lines for viewers calling to receive materials. In addition, CWRU programs addressing these conditions will be part of the informational package viewers receive, including NetWellness, the Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative, the Prevention Research Center for Healthy Neighborhoods and the National Youth Sports Program.
“Be Well” is part of the WVIZ/PBS and 90.3 WCPN multiple-media initiative about health topics of importance to our communities. CWRU with its consumer health website, NetWellness, is a partner in this ongoing collaborative initiative.
