There will be a faculty-student forum on academic integrity this Friday, Nov. 11, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. in Clapp Hall 108.
This semester’s forum, sponsored by the Office of Greek Life and UCITE, will discuss topics such as the Academic Integrity Board process, its impact on students, what is considered to be “cheating” in the classroom and ways students can avoid violating the academic integrity policy. Additionally, panelists will debate whether systems like TurnItIn and Blackboard’s new plagiarism detection software are fair to use on students’ work after they have completed it, or if they should be used merely as tools to help students better understand citations and appropriate quoting of sources.
Jeremy Bendik-Keymer will moderate the panel, which will be composed of Kendra Svilar, director of judicial affairs; Nancy DiIulio, assistant dean of Undergraduate Studies and adviser to the Academic Integrity Board; and Alexis Parisi, Panhellenic vice president of administration and Academic Integrity Board member.
This forum is open to all students, faculty and staff. Pizza and sodas will be available. No prior registration is required.
