Linda Ehrlich, associate professor of modern languages and film studies, will give a 15-minute talk about the book she edited, Good Films, Cheap Wine, Few Friends: A Memoir by film director Juan Luis Buñuel, and provide an introduction to the showing of Viridiana, by Luis Buñuel, father of Juan Luis Buñuel.
The event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 6:45 p.m. at the Cinematheque.
An unedited family memoir by Juan Luis Buñuel, the eldest son of famed Spanish surrealist filmmaker Luis Buñuel, spent 10 years in Ehrlich’s closet. With Juan Luis Buñuel’s permission, Ehrlich edited the manuscript and published it under the aforementioned title.
“This memoir offers a first-hand look at the life of a vibrant man who has been surrounded by important figures of the 20th century, including his father, Alexander Calder, Joan Miró and Orson Welles,” writes Ehrlich.
