Case Western Reserve University will present a lecture by Harvard law professor and bestselling author Cass Sunstein, among the most frequently cited legal thinkers in the country.
The event, on Monday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. in the ballroom of the new Tinkham Veale University Center, is part of the 2014-15 Town Hall of Cleveland at Case Western Reserve University speaker series.
Unsold tickets to Monday’s lecture are available at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis by registering at case.edu/universitycenter.
Sunstein, the Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law and director of the new Program on Behavioral Economics and Public Policy at Harvard Law School, is co-author of Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth, and Happiness, which argues that restrictive regulations are less effective at shaping behaviors than gentle, low-cost signals in people’s environments.
Sunstein is the former administrator for the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, the White House agency that reviews regulations on everything from coal ash disposal to salmonella rules for eggs. He has testified before congressional committees on many subjects and has been involved in constitution-making and law-reform activities internationally.
His emphasis on evidence-based regulation resulted in more than $91 billion in savings for the government and a series of regulations that balance environmental and social concerns with business’s need for flexibility.
Town Hall of Cleveland at Case Western Reserve University is the nation’s longest consecutive-running speaker series. In keeping with Town Hall’s 83-year legacy, each program allows for audience interaction with question-and-answer sessions following each lecture.
