Ever wondered what it’s like to be an MBA student? Julia Steinberg wants to help you out. A Weatherhead School of Management student, she is one of about 20 students selected to blog about their experiences at some of the top management schools around the world for the prestigious Financial Times. Steinberg, who spent more than three years in New York City as a public relations manager for Jones Apparel Group, is working toward her MBA to transition into marketing and strategy. Follow her experience on the blog, but in the meantime, find out more about the Kent State University alumna.
1. What’s on your iPod?
I love soul music, so my staples are Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Nina Simone, etc. Currently, I’m into Florence and the Machine, Adele and The Avett Brothers. The Black Keys are always a good go to, plus they’re great live. I have a soft spot in my heart for Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson—they will always be my pop favorites. And everyone that knows me is aware of my obsession with Jay-Z.
2. What’s your favorite spot in Cleveland and why?
Parnell’s Pub on Lee Road is one of my go to weekend spots. The atmosphere is low key, but it’s still lively on Friday and Saturday nights. I love going there to grab a beer and play darts. I’m also a fan of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. The planetarium is amazing, and no matter how old you are, it’s always fun to see the dinosaurs. It’s my favorite museum in Cleveland.
3. If you could only take three books with you to a deserted island, what would you take?
- “Time and Again” by Jack Finney
- “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” by Junot Diaz
- The entire collection of “Calvin and Hobbes” by Bill Waterson, because I would need humor to stay sane on a deserted island
4. What one word would you use to describe yourself, and what one word would your friends use to describe you?
Me: dedicated
My friends: genuine
5. What’s your favorite thing about Case Western Reserve University?
At Weatherhead School, we have an extremely diverse student body. I really enjoy getting to know students from other countries and learning more about their backgrounds.
